Katsumasa (Masa) Yonetani
I’m a local Christchurch artist born in Japan. I began oil painting as a hobby at the age of 17 and it has held my interest ever since. However, it is only recently that I’ve been able to devote myself to painting full time – the realization of a long-held dream.
My main focus is on landscapes – particularly mountains. My love of the outdoors goes back to my days as a boy scout. Even now when I paint, I think back to my youth. My paintings have always been from photos that I’ve taken, usually from scenery that has caught my eye during tramping experiences. I’ve been living in New Zealand for over thirty years and have realized that there will never be enough canvases to capture its beauty.
